Speech Therapy

Our speech language pathologists supports neurodivergent young adults in our day program, and individuals across the lifespan.

At RISE, we value building confidence and independence through meaningful communication. We celebrate and honor all forms of communication, including verbal, signed, or AAC, and tailor sessions to each person’s needs and goals.

Speech therapy at RISE focuses on skills used in everyday life, such as utilizing expressive and receptive communication, understanding and expressing ideas, social communication, self-advocacy, and participating in conversations during group activities and community outings.

Through one-on-one and small group sessions, our speech therapists create a supportive environment where participants can express themselves, connect with others, and find their voice in a way that feels natural and empowering.

  • Yes! RISE is currently in-network with Blue Cross Blue Shield/CareFirst, HSCSN, United, Aetna, Cigna, and Maryland Medicaid. We also accept DC Medicaid for clients with IDD/IFS waiver funding.

If you have an out-of-network insurance, we are happy to provide a superbill of services for possible reimbursement.

  • Sonika and Sam have experience with individuals across the lifespan with a variety of complex communication needs. We serve clients of all ages, with diagnoses including autism spectrum disorder, ADHD, cerebral palsy, genetic disorders (ex. • In-person services are available at the RISE Center located on Capitol Hill and to a client’s home or preferred community space within a 5 mile radius of 20002 in DC and Maryland.

Teletherapy services are also provided via a HIPPA compliant video conferencing platform.

  • We encourage anyone interested in services to sign up for a free 20 minute consultation with the RISE team. This will help us determine the best services for you, as well as give the chance for the team to make sure RISE is a good fit for you and that we can meet your needs.

  • We believe that all clients develop and learn skills best in their natural environment. We also value working with clients in our office, where we have access to specialized tools, equipment and supports to practice. By providing services at home or in the community, we can work with a client’s familiar people, routines, and specific items they use daily. This facilitates generalization and carryover of skills, and gives more flexibility for clients and their schedule.

  • At the RISE Center, we can offer sessions in a quiet space that allows participants the chance to practice skills with all of our modifications and adaptations readily available. This allows us to problem solve together, trial materials, and determine what would best suit the participant.

  • It depends! For some clients, they prefer individual sessions without caregiver support, and this allows for greater independence. For others, caregiver support is beneficial so a coaching model can be used to best support the client and their team. This is something we can discuss in our free consultation before we begin services, and can change throughout our journey together as a team with RISE.
